Kui Samaj delegation to meet Naveen

Staff Reporter

List of issues being prepared

BERHAMPUR: A delegation of Kandhamal Kui Samaj would meet the Chief Minister, Naveen Patnaik on January 25 in Bhubaneswar to discuss about their demands which have not been fulfilled yet.

Earlier the Kui Samaj activists had given a call for agitation from January 25. They called it off following a discussion with administrative officials including Revenue Divisional Commissioner (RDC), southern division, Satyabrata Sahu and RDC, central division, Suresh Mohapatra.

At the persuasion of the administrative officials the leaders of Kui Samaj have agreed to hold discussions with the Chief Minister rather than jeopardising the fragile peace in the district through their agitation.

Speaking to The Hindu, the coordinator of the Kui Samaj, Lambodar Kanhar said a delegation of five leaders of their organisation would meet the Chief Minister in Bhubaneswar on January 25. They are preparing a list of issues that they would take up with the Chief Minister.

Two of their major demands, resignation of State Minister Padmanabh Behera and transfer of IAS officers for administrative posts in the district have already been fulfilled.

Mr. Kanhar said now they would press upon the State Government to fulfil other demands like cacellation of registration of an NGO named Phulbani Kui Jankalyan Sangh that operates from Bhubaneswar and action against persons who have acquired Kui tribal certificates by forgery.

They would also press upon the State Government to come up with an official notification to clarify who should be considered a Kui tribal in Kandhamal district.

Meanwhile, the women in Kandhamal district have started to oppose the alleged indiscriminate arrests that have followed the communal violence last month.
