AIADMK protests hike in water charges

Work to bring back the party to power: O. Pannerselvam
|
UNITED DEMAND: AIADMK cadres staging a demonstration in front of Sattur municipality in Virudhunagar district on Tuesday.
SATTUR: All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam treasurer O. Pannerselvam on Tuesday said the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam had failed to provide basic facilities in local bodies in the State.
Participating in a protest demonstration organised by the AIADMK here, Mr. Pannerselvam alleged that the ruling party won the elections to the local bodies and the by-polls to the Assembly by resorting to booth capturing with the help of anti-social elements and the police.
He said the Tamil Nadu Assembly and Parliament would soon face elections and urged party men to work to bring back the AIADMK to power.
The party cadres protested against the Sattur municipality’s decision to increase drinking water supply charges to Rs.80 from Rs.30 and the deposit for water supply to Rs.7,000 from Rs.2,000.
Party district secretary K.K. Sivasamy and State farmers’ wing joint secretary Sundarapandiyan were among those who took part.
