Vijaya Bank posts rise in third quarter profit

BANGALORE: Vijaya Bank has posted a net profit of Rs. 126.88 crore for the last quarter that ended on December 31, 2007 as against Rs. 92.73 crore in the quarter ended December 31, 2006. This was a jump of 36.84 percentage points.

Bank chairman Prakash Mallya told presspersons here on Tuesday that the operating profit for the quarter was Rs. 158.63 crore as against the Rs. 152.26 crore in the third quarter of 2006-07. The interest income showed 51.09 percentage points increase.

The bank posted return on assets for the quarter ended December 31, 2007 at 1.03 per cent while 1 per cent was the international bench mark.
