Poultry prices dip marginally
Staff Correspondent
BANGALORE: The consumption of chicken in Bangalore has come down slightly in the past few days, thanks to the scare of avian flu. Prices of fish and mutton have risen sharply. The rates of chicken have dropped by Rs. 5 to Rs. 10 a kg.
Ashraf Ali of Punjab Dressed Chicken in Shivajinagar said he had reduced his price by Rs. 5 a kg as there was a 25 per cent drop in demand.
While poultry markets were facing a decline in business, restaurants faced a different problem. T. Ilyas of Grand Taj Restaurant said: “We buy less chicken now because customers may suddenly decide that they don’t want to eat it anymore and we will incur loss then.”
