Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Vigilance wing of the Forest Department seized a tiger skin, a leopard cat skin and five mg of ganja oil from Munnar following a raid on Monday.

Acting on a tip off, the team intercepted the autorickshaw in which the skins were being transported and arrested four persons including the driver, Forest officials said.

A press note quoting the Assistant Conservator of Forests (Evaluation) said the four persons were linked to a Munnar- based mafia involved in the illegal trade of wild animals, sandalwood and ganja.

The Forest Department has registered a case against Muthu, 30, Ramar, 49, Senthil, 28 and Palraj, 21.

They were produced before the Devikulam Judicial First Class Magistrate’s Court and remanded to judicial custody.
