International meet on theatre research
Staff Reporter
Bangalore: Bangalore University has decided to get its act together by hosting an international meet on theatre research. Its Department of Performing Arts, in association with the Indian Society for Theatre Research (ISTR), is organising an international conference on theatre research from January 24 to 26.
Announcing this to presspersons here on Tuesday, Vice-Chancellor H.A. Ranganath said that it is for the first time that a university in the State had taken the initiative to organise such a conference. “The theme of the three-day conference is ‘Indian theatre and the West’. The conference will be looking at the different magnitudes of western influences on Indian theatre in terms of playwriting, production, training, reception and theoretical understandings,” he said.
Prof. Ranganath also said that the conference is the fourth in the series organised by ISTR. The conference will be inaugurated by N.R. Shetty, former Vice-Chancellor and president of Indian Technical Education Society, while Brian Singleton, president of International Federation for Theatre Research, will be the chief guest.
