THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: ‘Fandango 2008,’ the three-day food-and-fun festival of the Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology (IHMCT), Kovalam, which has carved a niche for itself as a major gourmet event in the capital, will commence on Friday. The fun, frolic and the esprit de corps of the youthful organisers have given it a permanent slot on the tourism scene at the beach resort. The three-day Fandango 2008 that begins on January 25 will showcase the talents of the budding chefs as well as entrepreneurs. As many as 10 food stalls will come up on the lawns on the sprawling premises of the IHMCT, which functions under the Union Ministry of Tourism. Cultural programmes have also been organised as part of the annual event. Jugal Bandhi (fusion music) and Classical Dance will be on January 25, Classical Music and Kalaripayattu on January 26 and Shingarimelam and various cultural programmes by the students on the last day. The programme will start at 6.30 p.m. on the IHMCT premises. Tickets are priced at Rs.200 per person. From this, the guest can avail themselves of food coupons worth Rs.150. Fandango 2008 will be inaugurated by Managing Director KTDC K.G. Mohanlal. President of Kerala Hotel and Restaurant Association G. Sudheesh Kumar; and Director and Head, Bureau of Indian Standards, R.C. Mathew and panchayat member Latha Sugathan will attend.
