Governor visits drought-hit villages

Banda: Uttar Pradesh Governor T V Rajeswar visited drought-hit villages in Banda district in Bundelkhand region on Tuesday and met farmers to enquire about problems facing them.

The Governor visited Barokhar and Barkhar villages and listened to problems plaguing farmers in the wake of drought in the region, official sources said.

The farmers told the Governor that there was an acute shortage of water, electricity, fodder, seeds and fertilisers in the area.

They also complained about non-issuance of job cards to BPL families.

After assuring the farmers that their demands would be considered sympathetically, the Governor held a meeting with district officials.

Several districts in Bundelkhand region have been declared drought-hit due to scanty rainfall in the past few years. The Opposition, especially the Congress, has charged the Mayawati Government in the state with misusing Central funds and failing to carry out relief operations in the region. PTI
