In the limelight: CPI (M) State secretary B.V.Raghavulu addressing a press conference on the sidelines of the party district unit conference at Choutuppal in Nalgonda district on Tuesday.

CHOUTUPPAL (NALGONDA): Expressing displeasure over the fourth phase of land distribution programme, secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) B.V. Raghavulu has warned of launching another round of ‘prolonged agitation in a big way’ in February across the State.

“It’s a substandard land distribution programme to say the least. It’s indeed a drama to deceive people. They are distributing uncultivable and rock-strewn lands for the poor,” he said at a press conference held before rounding up the three-day conference of the CPI (M) district unit here on Tuesday.

He lambasted the Government for not distributing the land that was occupied by the party cadres during the ‘bhoo poratam’.

“After discussing the issue with all district units, we have come to a conclusion that we should launch another round of solid movement in a big way,” he declared, adding that a final decision would be taken at the State conference to be held from February 8 to 10.

Reiterating his comment that ‘Jala Yagnam’ is nothing but ‘Dhana Yagnam’, the CPI (M) politburo member demanded that the Government allocate funds for irrigation projects on a priority basis.

He also asked the Government to form a ‘Backward Areas Development Fund’ for the sake of regions such as Telangana and Uttarandhra.

To a question on the feeling of party cadres on the separate State demand, Mr. Raghavulu said: “We are all committed to linguistic States and there is no confusion on the party stand. They (party cadres) join the party after endorsing the party stand on political issues.”

He charged other political parties with “making a political fuss to divert the attention of people on important issues.”

He made it clear that there would be “big danger” with “smaller States.”
