Thiruvananthapuram: NSS general secretary P.K. Narayana Panicker has taken exception to the words reportedly used by CPI(M) leader Pinarayi Vijayan to describe social reformer Mannathu Padmanabhan and the ‘liberation struggle’ led by him against the first Communist ministry headed by E.M.S. Namboodiripad. Issues rejoinderIn a rejoinder issued at Perunna on Tuesday, he said that the CPI(M) leader had crossed the limits by making such a statement. He contended that those who believed in democracy proved that the ‘liberation struggle’ was the need of the times in the election held after that. When that was the position, the use of such cheap language did not befit a party leader whatever his objective was, he added. The reactions to the statements of Mr. Vijayan and Cooperation Minister G. Sudhakaran were dismissed as that of three or four leaders. But the NSS leaders’ meeting held recently proved that the reactions reflected the view of the entire Nair community which loved Mannathu Padmanabhan and the NSS. On that count, they (the leaders) did not require Mr.Vijayan’s or Mr.Sudhakaran’s recognition, he added.
