Young CC cruises to victory

Nagercoil: Young Cricket Club chalked out an 80-run win over V-90 Cricket Club in the inaugural match of the Canara Bank-Kanyakumari District Cricket Association first division league here on Sunday.

The scores: Young CC 205 in 30 overs (S. Arul 46, S. Sahaya Vijay 52, Deepan Chakravarthy four for 48, M. Ramesh four for 31) bt V-90 CC 125 for six in 30 overs (G. Titus 36 n.o.).

Mixed day for West

Defending champion West Zone had a mixed day in the five-team league of the fourth all-India United India Insurance inter-zone carrom tournament which commenced at Madurai on Tuesday.

West Zone beat South Zone 3-0 but lost to Head Office (Chennai) 1-2. In the other matches, East beat North 3-0 and South defeated North 2-1.

Twenty20 cricket

As many as 32 teams will take part in the M.K. Alagiri’s birthday district-level prize-money Twenty20 cricket tournament which will get underway at Madurai on Wednesday. The total prize-money will be more than Rs. one lakh.

Chess tournament

Football tournament

The second annual State-level inter-collegiate five-a-side football tournament, organised jointly by Dindigul District Football Association and SMBM HSS, will be held at the SMBM ground from January 31. Call Rtn. S. Shanmugam (98421-27545) for details.

Easy for Loyola College

Riding on the good work of Vinod (23 points) and Parthiban (15 points), Loyola College (Chennai) scored a comfortable 79-44 win over CSI Bishop Appasamy CAS in the opening league match of the 35th State-level inter-collegiate basketball tournament for men for the PSG Trophy at the PSG CAS in Coimbatore on Tuesday.

The results: League: Loyola (Chennai) 79 (Vinod 23, Parthiban 15) bt Bishop Appasamy 44 (Alex 16, Andrew Elvis 10).

Kikani posts win

Kikani HSS notched up a 6-1 win over Immaculate HSS in the fifth football tournament for junior boys for the Rao Bahadur Sri Gopalnaidu Memorial Rolling Trophy at the Sri Gopalnaidu HSS grounds (Coimbatore) on Tuesday.

The results: GRD MHSS 3 bt National Model 0; Kikani HSS 6 bt Immaculate MHSS 1.
