Project Kerala launch to take place in Kochi

Special Correspondent

Formal launch in the third week of February

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Project Kerala, a part of the Vision India scheme of the Asian Football Confederation, will be formally launched in the third week of February.

Stating this at a press conference here on Wednesday, the KSSC president, T.P. Dasan and the KFA president, K.M.I. Mather said the launch would take place in Kochi. The launch will also mark the beginning of the vital grassroots and youth development programme of the project.

The initial phase would also see the inauguration of the Kerala school league, with teams from all the 56 schools selected from the seven districts of the State participating. The league would be conducted at the district-level on a home and away basis during May this year. The champion and runner-up of all the seven districts would then be invited to take part in the ‘Festival of the Youth’ to be held later. The AFC Development Officer (Grassroots and Youth Development), Annathurai Ranganathan, who was present, said the AFC would be appointing three Development Officers to work under the KFA for the smooth implementation of the various elements included in the project.

He said that it was heart-warming to see the active participation of the Government in the implementation of the project. Emphasis was being given to the developments at the grassroots initially to ensure growth of football in Kerala gradually. “It is essential that we should approach development in the right way. Only with investment at the youth-level could anyone think of the future,” he said.
