Soz asks Punjab to adopt groundwater Bill

NEW DELHI: Union Water Resources Minister Saifuddin Soz on Tuesday urged Punjab Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal to adopt the Model Bill for Regulation and Recharge of Ground Water. Punjab is the only State that has not accepted this Bill.
Raising the issue, Mr. Soz said there was need for augmenting groundwater and rainwater harvesting in Punjab.
He assured the Chief Minister of full cooperation in implementation of the ongoing schemes.
Mr. Badal sought speedy implementation of a study conducted by the Central Ground Water Board for water logging problem in Muktasar district, as also of the scheme for Command Area Development as Punjab was the granary of the country and required irrigation.
