Book festival society wants Run panel to clear haze

VIJAYAWADA: Unable to contact the local MP, Lagadapati Rajagopal, to sort out the issue of the date of commencement of the annual book festival at Swaraj Maidan, members of the Vijayawada Book Festival Society on Tuesday took a final stand on the issue.

They urged the representatives of the organising committee for the ‘10 K Tiranga Run’, scheduled to be flagged off at Swaraj Maidan on February 3, to obtain a commitment in writing from district Collector Navin Mittal that the ground would be handed over to the society on February 4 and remain under its control till February 24. “We need time before and after the actual event, slated for February 10, for erection of shamiyanas and dismantling them. We’ve asked the organising committee members to get a letter from the Collector by Wednesday noon, ,” said B. Babjeeof the society.
