THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Travancore Devaswom Board has decided to decentralise the production of ‘appam’ and ‘aravana’ by setting up sophisticated plants at Sabarimala and Nilackal. Briefing reporters about the decisions of a board meeting here on Tuesday, president C.K. Guptan said the new plants with minimum manpower would have the capacity to meet the increasing demand of the pilgrims. ‘Aravana’ would be distributed in eco-friendly cans. The plants, to be run by the board, would have the capacity to produce and pack at least two lakh containers at one go. The board decided to explore the possibility of getting sponsors for the plants. Devotees had volunteered to take up all projects of the board in the coming year. A final decision on setting up the plants would be taken at a meeting of the board members, the TDB ombudsman, the Sabarimala Special Commissioner and the Special Officer to be held here on January 29.
