NEW DELHI: The concession for carrying out works on the Airport Express Rail Link between New Delhi railway station and Indira Gandhi International Airport here has been bagged jointly by Reliance Energy and CAF, a Spanish rolling stock company.
According to a Delhi Metro Rail Corporation official, the companies would be responsible for carrying out works related to installation of signals, procuring and running of metro trains, their maintenance and operations for a period of 30 years.
The companies will also pay Rs.51 crore to DMRC every year and share between 1 per cent and 5 per cent of their gross revenue for 15 years.
Faster trains
The trains on this link will run faster than the usual metro trains. Instead of the normal speed of 80 km per hour, the trains on this line will run at 135 kmph.
“The length of the link has also been increased by another 3.5 km, making it a 22.7 km stretch.
“The Group of Ministers at a meeting this past Friday announced that the line will now be extended up to Sector 21 of Dwarka,” said DMRC Chief Public Relations Officer Anuj Dayal.
Mr. Dayal said trains on this stretch would have six cars. While three will be used to ferry passengers, the rest will carry luggage. There will be two check-in points: at Shivaji Stadium and New Delhi railway station.
