Kalam to visit school

Former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam will visit MET Public School, Perumbavoor, on February 4. He will interact with students and launch a unique initiative of the school. School chairperson and managing director Indira Rajan said apart from MET students, select students from other schools too will take part in the interaction programme. Mr. Kalam will launch ‘Each one, teach one,’ an initiative of the school’s alumni. Under this, old students of the school will sponsor the education expenses of over 200 economically-backward students from different parts of the State. “Many parents too have expressed the willingness to sponsor their education. We also have a scheme to renovate labour rooms of government hospitals,” Ms. Rajan said.

Youth fete held

Saraswathy Vidyaniketan, Elamakkara, played host to a State-level youth festival organised by Bharatiya Vidyaniketan. The event was inaugurated by Vidyabharati national president K. Madhavan. Around 2000 students from over 100 schools in the State participated. Apart from art forms, Sanskrit was given much attention. Malappuram district topped in the medals tally.

School day

The seventh annual school day of Santa Cruz Public School, Eramaloor, was held on Saturday. It was inaugurated by A.M. Ariff, MLA. An English drama ‘Cindrella’ and a Malayalam one ‘Ekalavyan’ were staged, apart from other cultural events, said school Principal George Challithara. Kochi bishop John Thattumkal was the chief guest.

Media awareness contest

Ans Maria, Annie Rose Abraham and Aganeeth C.K. bagged gold medals at the PCM Media Awareness Contest, held at the St. Antony’s LP School, Kacheripady.

Around 150 students from across the State participated. The final round comprised an objective and visual test, quiz, extempore and personal interview.

Chess festival

A chess festival was organised under the banner of the parent teacher organisation of Bhavan’s Adarsha Vidyalaya, Kakkanad.

Sebastian Paul, MP, inaugurated the event, which was held at the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan auditorium in Kakkanad.
