Eluru
It will soon launch ‘multi-play services’ Eluru district received Raj Bhasha award ELURU: The entertainment buffs in the city will no longer be at the mercy of cable TV distributors for the stuff of their choice and taste, thanks to the BSNL for setting the stage to offer cable TV programmes through its network. L. Ananthram, General Manager, West Godavari Telecom District, said at a press conference here on Wednesday that the BSNL was poised to take a plunge into the arena of distribution of cable TV programmes parallel to the private cable TV distributors. He informed that the BSNL was getting ready to introduce new technology services named Internet Protocol TV (IPTV) services as part of the endeavour to take the TV programmes to the doorsteps of customers along with the telephone and Internet services. The so-called ‘Broadband Multi-play’ or ‘Triple Play’ would allow the users to simultaneously use their telephone line to browse Internet and also to view TV programmes, Mr. Ananthram explains. The General Manager said the BSNL was making efforts to enter a tie-up with a content provider for transmission of programmes. The BSNL would offer a ‘video library’ on demand, facilitating the Multi-play customers to opt for the latest Telugu, Hindi and English movies of their choice on payment of Rs 50 for each show, he added. The BSNL will effect some changes in the Broadband related data to facilitate technology upgradation. He said Broadband services would be extended to Kamavarapukota and Dwaraka Tirumala mandals in the district. Meanwhile, Mr. Ananthram said the West Godavari Telecom District had received the `Raj Bhasha rolling shield for ranking second in implementation of Hindi as Raj Bhasha in 2007-08. This was the third time the district received the shield in succession, he said.
