“Ring Road by-pass work to start in July”

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Work on the Ring Road by-pass behind Salimgarh Fort will begin in July, while the disused Gita Colony canal road would be ready for traffic by this coming March, according to Delhi Urban Development and PWD Minister Rajkumar Chauhan.

After inspecting both the sites on Tuesday accompanied by senior officials and engineers of the Public Works Department, the Minister said all formalities had been completed for the Ring Road by-pass to be built behind the Salimgarh Fort. The road would begin from Hanuman Setu and end at the Ring Road velodrome. The 5.5-km road would cost Rs.661 crore and a proposal seeking sanction for it would be sent to the Cabinet, he said.

Hoping that construction work on the road would begin in July this year, the Minister said the project would be completed in two years.

As for the Gita Colony canal road, the Minister said construction work was almost complete and it would be opened in the last week of March. A total of Rs.100 crore has been spent on construction of this road.
