Kharge made the statement at the party meet Don’t be misled by the Opposition, youth told GULBARGA: Not to be left behind in doling out promises on the eve of elections to the Legislative Assembly, the Congress on Wednesday announced that it would pay unemployment dole if it was voted to power. If the BJP took the first step by making a surprise announcement that it would provide free power to farmers if it was voted to power, it was now the turn of the Congress to revive its old promise on providing dole to the unemployed youth in the State. Declaring this at the Nava Chetana Samavesha organised by the Youth Congress here, KPCC president M. Mallikarjun Kharge said that during the last elections also the party had promised unemployment dole, but the party could not implement the promise due to the fact that it could not form the government on its own. Mr. Kharge said the Congress was aware of the problems of the youth, and particularly those without jobs and hence it had once again decided to make unemployment dole one of the top priorities, if the party came to power. He said that the youth were being misled by the Opposition, particularly the BJP, by spreading canards about the Congress that it had not done anything for the country all these years and pointed out that the developments achieved in the field of science and technology, IT , agriculture and other core sectors was due to the visionary policies of the successive Congress governments at the Centre and the State. Mr. Kharge wanted to know the contribution of the Opposition, particularly the BJP, for the development of the country, more particularly the welfare programmes directed to benefit the youth. President of the State Youth Congress Krishna Byre Gowda said that the Congress was the only hope for the youth of the country and they should not be misled by the false campaigns of the BJP and other Opposition parties. He noted that the youth of late were not showing interest in entering politics and advised them to actively participate in it. Iqbal Ahmed Saradgi, MP; the former Ministers A.B. Maalakaraddy, Malikayya Guttedar, G. Ramakrishna; the former MLAs Kailash Patil, Raja Venkatappa Naik Sharanaprakash; DCC president Allamprabhu Patil and others spoke. Earlier, the Youth Congress workers took out an impressive procession in the city.
