Vijayawada Mayor places three demands before government

Staff Reporter

VIJAYAWADA: A delegation led by Mayor Mallika Begum put three demands, including one on the Building Penalisation Scheme (BPS), before the State government on Tuesday.

Disclosing the details, Ms. Begum said that the government responded positively to all the requests. “We amply made it clear that people would have to sell their properties to pay the penalisation charges,” she said.

The Mayor said they requested the government to extend the last date for submitting the filled in applications under the BPS up to April 30 instead of February 29, and collect only 50 per cent of the prescribed penalisation charges for people living in notified slums.

Teacher posts

Ms. Begum said that they also appealed to the government to fill up all vacant teacher posts in municipal schools at the earliest. The issue of shopping complexes was also brought to the notice of the government. Recently, the government directed that book value of the property be taken before registering any agreement entered into between the owner and the tenant. It was highly burdensome on people, she added.

Congress leader in Vijayawada Municipal Corporation general body Kunuku Rajasekhar, corporators Sishtla Ramalinga Murthy and S.P. Gritton were also present.
