Rail staff stage demonstration in Virudhunagar

VIRUDHUNAGAR: Members of Southern Railway Mazdoor Union on Wednesday staged a demonstration in front of Virudhunagar Railway Station pressing for a charter of demands.

The demonstration, led by union assistant divisional secretary M. Maruthiah, demanded bonus arrears for 2006-07 and tabling of the Sixth Pay Commission report and its implementation with retrospective effect from January 1, 2006. The cadres also opposed retrenchment move by the railway.

Madurai

Members of Southern Railway Mazdoor Union staged a demonstration in front of the divisional office here on Wednesday demanding immediate disbursal of bonus arrears.

Led by the SRMU divisional secretary, R. Kesavan, and assistant divisional secretary, J.M. Rafiq, the agitators said that though the Ministry of Railways had enhanced the ceiling on bonus, the Finance Ministry was showing reluctance in disbursing the arrears of Rs. 2,500 to each employee.
