MLA visits encroached areas of Killi river

Says revenue boundary found tampered with

Alleges bid to appropriate prime property

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Thiruvananthapuram East MLA V. Sivankutty has urged the government to take urgent steps to remove encroachments on both banks of the Killi river flowing through the city.

He was speaking after a visit to the areas bordering the river at Jagathy to inspect encroachments upon Revenue land.

Mr. Sivankutty said land sharks were trying to appropriate prime property on the banks. He said there were attempts to torpedo the government scheme to construct a bund in the flood-prone areas. “Based on a detailed survey carried out in the Jagathy village with public participation, the Revenue Department had identified encroachments. The data generated by the survey was published by the Revenue Department prior to removing these encroachments.”

Mr. Sivankutty called on the government to check any move to sabotage the flood-control project.

Thiruvananthapuram tahsildar Krishnakumar and officials from the Irrigation department accompanied Mr. Sivankutty.

Mr. Sivankutty said the team had unearthed evidence that the boundary earmarked by the Revenue Department after the survey had been tampered with.
