KOCHI: K. Babu, MLA, has alleged that 70 acres of land, which was in possession of HMT had been sold to HDIL, a private company, in violation of the existing rules and regulations. At a press conference here on Wednesday, he demanded an inquiry by a legislative committee into the land transfer. He said the sale had been executed at one-third of the market price and alleged that corruption was involved in the deal. He demanded that the government nullify the deal and take possession of the land. He disputed the claim of the company that 60,000 people would be employed at the Cyber City project being taken up by it. He noted that the Smart City project to be set up in 246 acres was estimated to generate 90,000 jobs, a prospect that was considered non-realistic. He also said the cost estimate of Rs.4,000 crore was too high as the promised construction of 70,000 sq. ft. would be possible by spending half the amount. It remained a mystery as to why the company did not approach the Information Technology Department for the project. The company had no record of having set up IT parks elsewhere, he said.
