“Appoint disabled workers”

Staff Reporter

PUDUKOTTAI: The District Association for the Blind has urged the State Government to appoint disabled persons as multi-purpose rehabilitation workers (MRW) under the Centrally-sponsored National Programme for Rehabilitation of Persons with Disability.

In a memorandum to the Collector, its president P. Paundurai said that the scheme was being implemented through non-governmental organisations, which appoint disabled persons as MRWs. Although a few had appointed the visually-challenged persons as MRWs, the district authorities had objected to i. The district administration must take action for their re-instatement.

The association members staged an agitation in front of the office of the District Disabled Rehabilitation Officer here on Tuesday.
