Two held for selling fake gold biscuits

DAVANGERE: Two of four persons who tried to sell fake gold biscuits to a contractor, were arrested by the Santhebennur police yesterday. Rs.1.60 lakh cash was recovered from them.
The police said that that the arrested, Venkatesh and Govinda along with two other associates Giddamari and Hanumanthappa of Chikkabigere village in Chennagiri taluk used to visit houses disguised as cloth merchants and identify rich people. Later, they used to approach them and tell them that they had found gold in their fields. They used to give them a piece of original gold and asked them to get it verifiedThen they used to collect a certain amount from the buyers and give them the fake gold biscuits.
The four gave the contractor around 2 kg fake gold against Rs. 3 lakh a few days ago.
The contractor realised he had been cheated and registered a complaint with the police. The police are on the look-out for the other two persons.
