“Help poor enjoy banking facilities”

THENI: A total of 2.70 lakh out of total 3.08 lakh households in the district have opened their bank accounts under the financial inclusion scheme.

At a standing committee meeting held here on Wednesday, Collector Har Sahay Meena said the Theni branch of AXIS Bank and the Canara bank branches in Theni, Bodinayakkanur, Chinnamanur, Cumbum, Erasakkanayakkanur, Gudalur and Kadamalaigundu had achieved cent per cent in financial inclusion target. Bankers must open savings bank ‘no frill accounts’ freely to help the poor enjoy banking facilities.

Several branches had achieved their target in the PMRY scheme also. The Sri Rengapuram branch of Central Bank of India, Theni branch of Federal Bank Ltd, Theni and Chinnamanur branches of Indian Overseas Bank, Bodi branches of Karur Vysya Bank Ltd and State Bank of India had completed cent per cent of sanction and disbursement target under the scheme. The CD ratio of the district was 154 per cent, the highest among all districts in the State.

Lead District Manager R. Murugesan, RBI Assistant General Manager S. Veluswami, NABARD Assistant General Manager S. Ernest David and DRDA Project Officer C.K Veeranan took part.
