Contempt proceedings initiated

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: Contempt of court proceedings have been initiated against the Kodanadu estate management for allegedly closing a public panchayat road, in violation of an order issued by the Madras High Court.

Justice R. Banumathi, before whom the contempt petition filed by residents of Kamaraj Nagar and Anna Nagar at Kodanadu Village came up for hearing, sought to know the management’s stand and adjourned the matter to February 5. The petitioners said the 2.5-km road, used by the residents of these colonies, farmers and tea estate workers, has remained closed since September 21.

Unfair advantage

Noting that the estate management was taking unfair advantage of the interim order of the court, the petitioners sought to punish the manager for contempt.
