Honoured: Yusuf Arakkal, K.P. Soman, Paris Viswanathan, Arpana Caur and Vijayakumar Menon.
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Yusuf Arakkal, artist, and K.P. Soman, sculptor, have been selected for the Kerala Lalithakala Akademi fellowship for 2008. Minister for Culture and Education M.A. Baby told presspersons here on Thursday that the fellowship had been awarded in recognition of their contributions to art. Paris Viswanathan, artist, had been selected for the first K.C.S. Panicker award of the akademi and Arpana Caur, artist, for the T.K. Padmini award. Vijayakumar Menon, art critic, had been selected for the Kesari memorial award, instituted as a recognition to reviews on painting and art and those active in the cultural realm. The akademi will present a purse of Rs. 25,000, citation and statuette each to all those selected for the fellowship and the awards. The awards will be presented in Ernakulam on February 7. Akademi Chairman C.N. Karunakaran, Vice-Chairperson Savithri Rajeevan and secretary Satyapalan were present.
