Damaged sanitary line disrupts underpass work
Staff Reporter
BANGALORE: Work on the underpass at the Cauvery junction was hampered again on Wednesday when a sanitary pipeline burst open in the trench.
With sewage accumulated in the trench, workers could not carry out work till it was pumped out by 4.30 a.m. “The whole of last night was wasted because of the problem. We got the sewage pumped out through the duct put up through horizontal direct drilling and work finally resumed on Thursday morning,” K.S. Krishna Reddy, BBMP Chief Engineer (Major Roads), said.
Asserting that the work would not be delayed because of the damaged sanitary pipeline, Mr. Reddy said that efforts would be made to ensure that the commissioner’s extended deadline of 10 days would be met. “I do not think we would be able to open it for traffic on January 26,” he said.
Work was in full swing and 50 per cent of debris had been cleared.
Works such as soil nailing, ramp construction, concreting and finishing of retaining walls were on. Restoration of roads would take some time, he said.
