New facilities inaugurated

NAGAPATTINAM: Union Minister for Panchayat Raj, Youth Welfare and Sports Mani Shankar Aiyar and Local Administration Minister M. K. Stalin, inaugurated on Thursday volleyball and basketball courts at the new stadium being built in Mayiladuturai in the district.
Mr. Aiyar said that the modern stadium was being constructed by the Sports Development Authority of India in co-ordination with the State Government. The volleyball and basketball courts were constructed at a cost of Rs.40 lakh.
Besides, Rs.13 crore was being spent at the stadium — construction of swimming pool (Rs.3 crore), indoor stadium for various events (Rs.7 crore), 400-metre track for athletic events (Rs.3 crore) and other infrastructure facilities. Special training would be given for boys and girls who would be provided accommodation in the stadium. Collector Tenkasi S. Jawahar, and MLA S. Rajakumar spoke.
