Book fair in Tirupur

TIRUPUR: The fifth edition of Tirupur Book Fair 2008, jointly organised by Pinnal Book Trust and Bharathi Puthagalayam, will begin on Friday on the Town Hall grounds here.
The exhibition will offer around 50,000 titles from leading publishers and sellers including New Century Book House, Vidiyal, Thenthisai Pathippagam and Nivetita Pathippagam. The fair will be on till February 3 and entry is free. Ten per cent discount will be given on every sale.
Rural Industries Minister Pongalur N. Palanisamy will inaugurate the fair in the presence of Mayor K. Selvaraj. South India Hosiery Manufacturers’ Association president Mohan P. Kandasamy will inaugurate the first sale.
The fair will be open between 3 p.m. and 9.30 p.m. on working days and from 11 a.m. to 9.30 p.m. on Weekends. According to R. Eswaran, one of the organisers of the event, more than 35,000 students from colleges and schools around Tirupur have been invited. “We have given entry passes to every student. We will also be giving three cash prizes (Rs.500, Rs.300 and Rs.200 for first three winners respectively) to the students daily by conducting draws, mainly to attract them to the fair,” he said.
