Call to strengthen surveillance

CHENNAI: A need to strengthen and intensify surveillance and ensuring preventive measures in poultry areas and sanctuaries was emphasised by Chief Secretary L.K. Tripathy on Thursday. Reviewing the State-level Task Force Committee meeting on Avian Influenza, the Chief Secretary instructed that hygiene must be ensured in all markets where chicken, meat and eggs were sold.

He asked Animal Husbandry Department authorities to increase surveillance on the backyard poultry areas. — Special Correspondent
