Manu Sharma appeal posted to February 12

Legal Correspondent

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Thursday posted to February 12 hearing on the appeal filed by Manu Sharma, convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment in the Jessica Lal murder case. It will also take up his bail plea that day.

A Bench consisting of Chief Justice K.G. Balakrishan and Justices R.V. Raveendran and J.M. Panchal fixed the date after senior counsel Ram Jethmalani, appearing for Manu Sharma, pleaded for expeditious hearing as the matter could not be taken up on Thursday.

The prosecution case was that the ramp model was shot dead on the intervening night of April 29-30, 1999 at a party at Qutub Colonnade restaurant in south Delhi. The trial court on February 21, 2006 acquitted all the nine accused observing that there was lack of evidence against them. However, the Delhi High Court on December 20, 2006 reversed the acquittal and awarded life imprisonment to Manu Sharma.
