CHENNAI: Mahindra Holidays and Resorts India is planning to set up a school for the hospitality sector. According to Ramesh Ramanathan, Managing Director, the school will come up at Mahindra World City near here. It will offer two types of courses, a three-year full-time management course and a short-term operational trainee course. In an interaction with this correspondent, he said the company was also planning to set up a culinary school, which would be the first of its kind in the country. Both these institutes would be up and running in 15 months, he said. He said the company plans to tap the market. The public offer would comprise sale of five per cent stake held by the Mahindras and also issue of fresh shares. The amount raised from the public issue would be used for expanding the existing resorts at Manali and Coorg and also for building new resorts in Puducherry, Lonavala in Maharashtra, Binsar and Rajasthan. The company had also purchased land in Maharashtra, Kerala and Rathnagiri, he said. The company was also looking at launching two more products in the resort segment such as fractional and budget. The fractional project would cater to the premium and niche segment of the society. It would provide exclusive villas and independent houses for the premium segment travellers, which would be similar to the gated community concept. Under the budget segment, it would look at providing rooms and other facilities for budget travellers.
