Olympus advances

Madurai: Olympus Cricket Club entered the semifinals of the M.K. Alagiri’s birthday prize money Twenty 20 cricket tournament for Rising Sun Trophy defeating Babu Cricket Academy by 41 runs at Madurai on Friday.

The scores (quarterfinals): Olympus CC 177 for three in 20 overs (K.A. Dayanidhi 44) bt Babu Cricket Academy 136 in 18.4 overs; Majestic CC 139 for eight in 20 overs (Rajkumar 40) bt Oliva CC 121 in 19 overs; Kapil Devils CC 141 for seven in 20 overs bt MCHSS 111 in 18.2 overs.

Rajkumar shines

Three goals by Rajkumar, a brace by Prasath and one by Nagalingam helped American College Higher Secondary School ‘B’ defeat Don Bosco Football Club 6-2 in the final of the third State-level inter-school football tournament for Vikram Trophy organised by Vikram College of Engineering at Madurai on Friday.

The results (final):

ACHSS ‘B’ 6 (Rajkumar 3, Prasath 2, Nagalingam) bt Don Bosco FC 2 (Prince Anthony, Balasubramaniam).

Premkumar wins titles

K. Premkumar of Head Office, Chennai won two titles in the United India Insurance fourth All India inter-zone carrom tournament at Madurai on Friday.

Premkumar successfully defended the men’s singles title defeating Ravi Bachchalwar of West Zone 25-7, 18-25, 26-16 and partnering M. Anandan, went on to clinch the men’s doubles title defeating V.K. Sharma and Santhosh Chandel of East Zone 25-1, 25-8. Earlier, Premkumar helped his Head Office team to regain the team title.

In women’s section, M.V. Padma of South Zone beat Vrushali Jani of West Zone 25-10 in the last match of the seven-member round robin league for an all-win record (12 points) to defend the title. Vrushali Jani and Shasikala V. Rao finished second and third respectively with 8 points each.

Men’s doubles (semifinals): VK. Sarma & Santhosh Chandel (EZ) bt Ravi Bachchalwar & Ankush Kambli (WZ) 25-10, 25-19; K. Premkumar & M. Anandan bt JR. Hari Bapu & HN. Khilledar (SZ) 25-5, 25-16.
