Letters to the Editor
The strike by public sector banks on Friday to protest the proposed merger of associate banks with the State Bank of India and wage-related issues was unfortunate and uncalled for. The people are irked by the continuous closure of banks which cripples business activities. Bank employees are among the well taken care of sections. They must think of our farmers, a good number of whom have committed suicide because of their inability to make a living. This is not to say that bank employees should not protest against anything. But a strike should be the last weapon to drive home a point. S. Venugopalan, Chennai The reason for the strike may be genuine from the point of view of the bank employees. But why did they strike work a day before two holidays? P.B. Sundara Rajan, Hyderabad
