NEW DELHI: Ravi Rathore struck six goals as Cavalry Red defeated Army Polo and Riding Club (APRC) eight goals to three-and-a-half to make it to the final of the Samaira Cup eight-goal polo tournament here on Friday. Rathore was in splendid form as he made ample use of the passes and scored goals in a heap while his teammate Jaideep Singh and Sameer Chaudhary chipped in with one each. For APRC, which started with half-a-goal on handicap, G.S. Pandher, Tony Singh and Rajesh Sahgal were the scorers. Cavalry Red will meet Kingfisher First in the final on Sunday. In the second semifinal, Kingfisher defeated Cavalry-Sahgal Stud 8-7 in a close match after the latter had started with two goals on handicap. The Cavalry-Sahgal Stud combine started confidently as Vishal Chauhan scored three goals in the first chukker to help his team take a good lead. But Simran Shergill shot back for Kingfisher with four goals while Abhimanyu Pathak, Sunjay Kapur and Adhiraj Singh struck one each. In between, Pandher, who had played for APRC in the morning, replaced an injured Pathak and struck one for Kingfisher. Chauhan added one more while Gaurav Sahgal struck one, but a resilient Cavalry-Sahgal Stud lost out on time.
