“Carla may join Sarkozy on Agra visit”

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The very large press corps that on Friday accompanied French President Nicolas Sarkozy refused to let go of the idea that a man in love with a woman would be so unchivalrous as to visit the Taj Mahal, the world’s grandest monument to love, all by himself.

So the natural inference, according to these well-informed French journalists, is that Carla Bruni will somehow make it to India to be with Mr. Sarkozy when he visits Agra on Saturday.

Also, informed sources from Paris insisted that Ms. Bruni was very much scheduled to fly out in a private jet to land in New Delhi, in time to accompany him to Agra.

A handful among the travelling French journalists appear to have additional inside information about their President’s itinerary: the couple propose to leave from New Delhi for Melbourne in time to catch a bit of action in the Australian Open.
