Yakshagana episode in city

Special Correspondent

BANGALORE: Yakshagana may have originated in coastal Karnataka, but migrants from there who have settled in Bangalore have ensured the art form’s vibrant presence in the city since the 1970s. Over the years, even native Bangaloreans have taken to Yakshagana.

In the initial years well-known Yakshagana melas, including the Saligrama Mela, Kateel Mela, Idagunji Mela and Dharmasthala Mela, used to perform in the city. The programme log books of Ravindra Kalakshetra and Town Hall mention many such events.

One such locality performance is scheduled to be held on February 2 at Rajarajeshwari Nagar. The “prasanga” to be played is Karthaveeryarjuna. The event is organised by Cobalt Forum for Art and Music.
