Man found murdered in his shop

Special Correspondent

BANGALORE: A businessman was found murdered under mysterious circumstances at his shop in a commercial complex, off City Market, in Silver Jubilee Park police station limits on Friday.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) B.N.S. Reddy said the assailants had hit Dhanaraj S. Ranka (51) on the head with an iron rod. Ranka owned a sanitary fittings shop on the first floor of a commercial complex, which has around 15 shops, on Benki Nawab Street.

After closing the shop at 8.10 p.m. on Thursday night, Ranka told his son that he would go to Avenue Road and return home around 10 p.m. For the past few days Ranka was regularly visiting his friends on Avenue Road to find a groom for his daughter, Mr. Reddy told The Hindu.

When he did not return home till 10.30 p.m., his sons Vikram and Kiran tried in vain to reach him on his mobile phone. Around 10.30 a.m. on Friday, the two went to the Ulsoor Gate police station and lodged a complaint that their father had gone missing.

As the keys of the business establishment were with Ranka, his sons, using the spare keys, opened the shop around 1.30 p.m. and found their father lying dead on the floor. His trousers had been removed, Mr. Reddy said.

“The mystery is why he came back to the shop after closing the business for the day,” the officer said. The Silver Jubilee Park police have registered a case.

Sources in the police said that they had some clues about the assailants and it was a question of time before they were arrested.

Two killed

Two men were killed in a hit-and-run incident on Hosur Road in Madivala traffic police station limits on Thursday.

According to the police, around 11 p.m. a lorry rammed a motorcycle on a Service Road near Roopena Agrahara. Of the three who were on the motorcycle, two were killed on the spot and the other was seriously injured. The dead were identified as Balaraj (45)and Shekar Reddy (28). Their injured friend Bhaskar Reddy has been hospitalised.

Stabbed

A restaurant employee was seriously injured when he was stabbed in the abdomen in Girinagar police station limits early on Friday.

The police said Girish (25) had been admitted to a hospital and he was out of danger. The incident took place around 12.45 a.m. at Dwarakanagar in Hosakerihalli while Girish was returning home from work.

The police said Lokesh, a former roommate of Girish, and two others came in a car and attacked him. As Lokesh, an autorickshaw driver, had not paid his share of the rent, Girish had forced him to vacate the room recently.
