School students presenting cultural programmes in Cuddalore. — CUDDALORE: Patriotism and gaiety marked the Republic Day celebrations in Cuddalore and Villupuram districts on Saturday. Dozens of freedom fighters were honoured on the occasion. District Collector Rajendra Ratnoo, along with Superintendent of Police Pradip Kumar, took the salute and inspected the guard of honour. His counterpart at Villupuram Brajendra Navnit, in the presence of Deputy Inspector General of Police G.K.Vanniabperumal and Superintendent of Police A. Amalraj, unfurled the National Flag. Mr. Ratnoo gave away welfare measures worth over Rs 24.75 lakh to 165 beneficiaries, including distribution of sewing machines, irons, milch animals and hearing aids. He presented Chief Minister’s medals to 39 police personnel. Mr. Navnit distributed assistance worth Rs 2.95 lakh to 127 beneficiaries. He also gave away certificates of appreciation to 18 officials, including Dr S.R. Ganesh who assisted in considerable number of institutional delivery. The Collector also presented Chief Minister’s medals to 34 police personnel. School students presented cultural events on patriotic themes and traditional folk arts.
