Youth killed in accident on train

Staff Reporter

ALAPPUZHA: A youth from Bangalore was killed in an accident while travelling on a train at Mararikulam, near here, on Saturday morning.

The Mararikulam police said Devadas, 25, employed with a private firm, was suspected to have fallen off the Bangalore-Kochuveli Express at around 7.45 a.m., just before the train reached the Mararikulam railway station.

Devadas’ friends told the police that a 50-member group from Bangalore was on its way to Alappuzha for a holiday trip when the accident occurred.

The police said the post-mortem was conducted at Government Medical College here after which the body was handed over to the friends.

They are said to have taken the body to Ernakulam for embalming, after which they would depart for Bangalore by flight.
