‘All villages will be covered under AGAMT’

Staff Reporter

Namakkal: All the villages in the district will be covered under the Anaithu Grama Anna Marumalarchi Thittam (AGAMT) in another three years, Collector G. Sundaramurthi has said.

Participating at the gram sabha meeting held in view of the Republic Day at Melmugam village in Mallasamudram block here on Saturday, he said that the administration had already covered 122 villages under the AGAMT, wholly funded by the State Government.

Funds would be sanctioned for the remaining villages to take up development works under the scheme in a phased manner within three years. The scheme was aimed at ensuring holistic development in the rural areas. The Collector appealed to the gram sabha members to discuss the importance of energy conservation. The maximum utilisation of non-conventional energy sources should be stressed. The sabhas should also discuss about works that could be taken up under the Namakku Name Thittam, which was re-launched by the State Government recently, he said. People should be educated on the environmental protection and total sanitation, he added.

The Collector asked the self-help group members to participate in large numbers in the grama sabhas. Officials from various departments should also attend the sabhas and explain government welfare schemes to the people.
