Chennai triumphs

CHENNAI: Chennai defeated Tirunelveli 3-2 in the final of the Tamil Nadu inter-zonal under-18 hockey tournament at YMCA College of Physical Education ground here on Saturday.

Vikram scored twice, while Narender K. Kumar netted once. Vinoth Kumar and Manikandan found the target for Tirunelveli.

Bob Davidzon, Project Leader, promotion of Indian hockey, gave away the prizes.

Special prizes: Vikram (Chennai), Selvakumar (TIruneveli), Raghuvaran (Madurai).

Reigning champion Andhra posted victories over host Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka in the men’s section on day two of the South Zone tennikoit championship in Kozhikode on Saturday.

The results (round-robin league): Men: Tamil Nadu bt Puducherry 3-1; Andhra bt Karnataka 3-0; Tamil Nadu bt Kerala 3-0; Karnataka bt Puducherry 3-2; Andhra bt Tamil Nadu 3-1; Tamil Nadu bt Karnataka 3-0; Andhra bt Kerala 3-0.

Women: Tamil Nadu bt Kerala 3-1; Andhra bt Puducherry 3-0; Karnataka bt Puducherry 3-0; Andhra bt Kerala 3-0.
