Scribes told to practise ‘creative journalism’

Special Correspondent

‘The idea of good governance emerged from newspapers’

GULBARGA: The peetadipathi of Sri Sharanabasaveshwar Samasthan and chairman of Sharanabasaveshwar Vidya Vardak Sangh Poojya Dr. Sharanabasavappa Appa has called upon journalists to practise creative journalism.

Releasing the first copy of the Gulbarga edition of the Raichur-based Kannada daily “Suddhi Moola” here on Saturday, Dr. Appa said that there were several examples of how newspapers and media had helped society and the country by publishing and telecasting ‘useful’ news and how “destructive journalism” practised by a few had ruined society.

Journalists should be familiar with the topography of the area they were working and should keep tabs on the needs of the area and development activities.

Field experiences

A journalist should use all the field experiences gained to project the requirements of the region, which, in turn, would help the legislature frame policies for development.

Good governaance

Dr. Appa said that the idea of good governance emerged from newspapers which played a crucial role in leading the country on the path of development. Referring to the low literacy rate in Gulbarga district and low circulation of newspapers in the district, Dr. Appa said that the local newspapers should first involve in promoting literacy to help people cultivate reading habits.

The former Minister Qamar-Ul-Islam and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sharanappa spoke. District Congress Committee president Allam Prabhu Patil, the former Mayor Sanjay Singh, the former Joint Director of the Information Department Apparao Akkoni and senior journalist P.M. Mannur were present. Editor of “Suddhi Moola” Basavaraj Swami presided over the function.
