Inspiring teachers: Former President .A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, at the ‘Lead India 2020’ programme in Hyderabad on Saturday. HYDERABAD: Former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam on Saturday exhorted teachers to inculcate the qualities of leadership and courage among students, as they shaped the careers of the future leaders of the country. Dr. Kalam addressed a huge gathering of children drawn from several schools of Ranga Reddy district, as part of the ‘Mass awareness on fundamental duties’ conducted by ‘Lead India 2020’. He described the teachers, headmasters and principals of schools as transformers of society. He said he was visualising a school that radiated greatness of teaching capacity among teachers. Imbibing creativity, e-learning, internet capabilities and good library would make a good school, he observed. Dr. Kalam’s very arrival evoked a lot of enthusiasm among the children as most of them stood up to have a glimpse of the ‘people’s President’. Dr. Kalam wanted teachers to lead a unique way of life with purity and become role models for students. He desired that all students in the country should succeed in their academic pursuit with distinction. Dr. Kalam conducted the programme as an interaction session with children, making them repeat en masse a few observations that would help their personalities develop. Assembly Speaker K.R. Suresh Reddy, Minister for Minor Irrigation Maganti Venkateswara Rao, High Court Judge V. Eswaraih, national coordinator of ‘Lead India 2020’ N.B. Sudarshan Acharya, also spoke. Book releaseDr. Kalam released ‘Milestones of Science’, an illustrated encyclopaedia of evolution of science. He released both English and Telugu editions of book published by Discovery, India’s popular monthly science magazine. This second major publication of ‘Discovery’ magazine has 200 concepts selected by a team of researchers out of over 1,000 major developments in science.
