Telangana creates rift in Left parties
HYDERABAD: The CPI’s decision to support the formation of separate Telangana has created a rift between the CPI and the CPI (Marxist).
The CPI’s support for Telangana in its draft political resolution ahead of the party’s national conference in Hyderabad has attracted criticism from CPI (M) leaders. “How can a party that supported the formation of linguistic States change its stand and favour separate Telangana,” CPI (M) State secretary B.V. Raghavulu asked.
Explanation sought
He said the CPI owed an explanation to the people about its decision to change the stand on smaller States that was in sharp contrast to the Marxist-Leninist ideals. CPI State secretary K. Narayana, however, clarified that the party decided to support separate Telangana in view of the “growing demand and increasing sentiment” prevailing in the region.
Reacting sharply, Mr. Narayana reminded Mr. Raghavulu that the CPI was an independent party and it had to take decisions in tune with the aspirations of the people.
