A platform to display their talent

Staff Correspondent

Colourful: A painting exhibition organised by S.J.M. College of Fine Arts at Madakari Circle in Chitradurga.

Chitradurga: People of Chitradurga had an opportunity to witness exotic paintings exhibited near Madakari Circle here for two days.

The open-air painting exhibition, which began on Saturday, was organised by S.J.M. College of Fine Arts for the third consecutive year.

As many as 25 students participated in the exhibition in which over 200 paintings were displayed.

Objective

“The objective of the exhibition is to bring art to the people and display the talent of upcoming artists,” said principal of the college C. Kanmesh.

Organising such events within four walls would confine the talent only among a small section of visitors, he said. If held in open place, people from all walks of life, including art admirers, could view the paintings. Besides, the students could also sell their paintings at the exhibition, he said.

Mr. Kanmesh said that last year one painting was sold for Rs. 12,000 at the exhibition.

Kirti, a final year student, said the exhibition had provided a platform for students to showcase their talent.

We get encouraged by the large number of visitors coming here to see and buy our paintings, he said.

Thanking the college for promoting such events, Savita, a student, said in places such as Chitradurga where there is not much encouragement for art, the exhibition would help people to be aware of art.

This might inspire some students to take up painting as a profession, she added.

M. Prahallad, a visitor, said the exhibition was refreshing and helped people to forget the hassles of city life.
