Coming to a halt: Activists of the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike staging a ‘rail roko’ in Chitradurga on Sunday. Chitradurga: Activists of the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (Praveen Shetty group) and the Dalit Sangharsha Samiti (Dada Saheb N. Murthy group) staged a “rail roko” here on Sunday, demanding that Kannadigas be given preference in railway recruitment. The members, shouting slogans against Railway Minister Lalu Prasad, alleged that the Union Government had been discriminating against Kannadigas while recruiting candidates for Group C and Group D posts. In a memorandum, they alleged that Mr. Prasad had been according priority to people from Bihar, his State. Condemning this, they urged the Union Government to treat all candidates equally. They also demanded the implementation of the Nanjundappa Committee report on removal of regional imbalances in the State. They also demanded that Kannada be used while printing railway tickets, in accordance with the trilingual policy of the Centre.
